You can decorate your home for Diwali without spending much. A few satin ribbons and some basic craft supplies can change how your door, pooja corner and gifts look. Here are five ideas that take under an hour each.

Five simple ideas
- Ribbon toran for the door. Cut ribbon pieces of different lengths and tie them to a long cord or a wooden strip. Mix two or three colours, such as mustard, forest green and light orange, so it looks festive and not busy.
- Pooja thali decoration. Tie a satin ribbon around the thali edge, or tie small bows on the kalash neck. Keep the ribbon away from the lit diya. Get your pooja essentials in the same order.
- Gift wrapping for sweets and dry fruit boxes. Wrap plain boxes in coloured paper and finish with a ribbon bow. See our gift wrapping and bags and gift potli bags. A handwritten tag makes it feel personal.
- Hanging streamers and backdrops. Cut ribbons into long strips, or use crepe paper streamer rolls or a foil fringe curtain, and hang them from a window frame or curtain rod for a simple backdrop at photo time.
- Diya plate setup. Arrange diyas on a tray decorated with ribbon trim along the edge. Place it on the table, not near curtains or hanging ribbons.
