School Reopening Checklist 2026: Stationery List for Students
Every year around May and June, the same thing starts happening at our store in PBEL City, Hyderabad.
Parents walk in holding school circulars folded into tiny squares. Kids immediately run toward the colourful pencil boxes and sketch pens. Someone says they “only came for notebooks,” and twenty minutes later they’re carrying brown book covers, labels, geometry boxes, glue sticks, pens, pencils, and one extra long book “just in case.”
Honestly, after seeing this happen year after year, we realized something: most school shopping lists are incomplete.
Schools may mention notebooks and textbooks, but there are always those extra little things parents remember only the night before school starts.
So instead of creating another generic stationery list, we thought we’d put together a practical school reopening checklist for 2026 based on the things parents and students actually buy every single year.

“Every school year begins with fresh notebooks, new stationery, and parents realizing one item was definitely forgotten.”
1. Notebooks – The First Thing Every Parent Starts With
School shopping almost always begins with notebooks.
Some schools ask for:
- Single line notebooks
- Four line books
- Square notebooks
- Drawing books
- Practical records
- Graph books
- Long books
- Interleaf notebooks
Over the last few years, brown cover notebooks have become especially popular because they save parents the trouble of manually covering every book at home.
Some of the most commonly picked notebooks during school reopening season are:
- Youva notebooks
- Classmate notebooks
- Long books for higher classes
- Interleaf notebooks
- Drawing books
2. Book Covers & Labels – The Things Schools Suddenly Ask For
This is usually where parents realize: the actual school preparation has only just started.
- Brown book covers
- Transparent book covers
- Self-adhesive covers
- Notebook labels
- Name stickers
- Subject labels
And somehow schools always want everything neatly labelled by the very next day.
3. Pens, Pencils & Writing Essentials
If there’s one thing parents already know, it’s this: stationery disappears faster than expected.
The most commonly bought writing essentials include:
- Pencils
- Erasers
- Sharpeners
- Blue pens
- Black pens
- Gel pens
- Scales
- Highlighters
- Marker pens
Popular everyday brands students usually prefer:
- Reynolds pens
- Cello pens
- Nataraj pencils
- Apsara pencils
- DOMS stationery products

4. Geometry Boxes – The One Thing Nobody Remembers
Every school reopening season has at least one emergency geometry box purchase. Usually late at night.
A child suddenly remembers: “I need a compass box tomorrow.”
- Compass
- Divider
- Protractor
- Set squares
- Rulers
- Calculators
Most searched products:
- Camlin geometry box
- DOMS geometry box
- Scientific calculators
5. Pencil Pouches, Files & School Essentials
Children may not care much about notebooks initially. But pencil boxes? That’s serious business.
Apart from pencil boxes, parents also usually buy:
- Pencil pouches
- Zipper folders
- Document files
- Clipboard files
- Lunch accessories
- Water bottle labels
6. Art & Craft Supplies – Because Projects Never Stop
Within the first few weeks itself, schools usually start asking for:
- Chart paper
- Craft paper
- Crayons
- Sketch pens
- Glue sticks
- Scissors
- Origami sheets
- Ice cream sticks
- Colours
Some of the most commonly bought craft products include:
- DOMS crayons
- Camel water colours
- Origami paper packs
- Wooden ice cream sticks
- DIY school project supplies
One thing we’ve learned over the years: Most parents don’t actually enjoy running around multiple shops before school reopening.
What they really want is: one reliable place, affordable pricing, and not having to remember forgotten items later.
That’s honestly one of the reasons The Little Store slowly grew beyond our original folding table setup in PBEL City.
